Final Piece - Opening Sequence. The Chase

Dear moderator below is our final cut, this is the finished edited version of our opening sequence of the film "The Chase". We did struggle with the filming and editing stages but managed to finish and are happy with the outcome.

Enjoy!

Evaluation - Who Would Be the Audience For Your Media Product?

This is the fourth part of my media elevation for my final piece. to answer the question: Who would be the audience for your media product? to do this i made an interview type scene and asked someone to interview me about the questions.

This interview was a video but for some technical reasons only the audio has worked.

Evaluation - How Did You Attract Or Address Your Audience?

This is the fifth part of my evaluation. To answer this question: How did you attract or address your audience? to answer this question I designed a power point and did a voice over for it.

How did you attract or address your audience q 5 from joshie291

This is the voice over to the power point.

Evaluation - What Kind of Media Institution Might Distribute Your Media Product And Why?

This is the third question of my evaluation  to answer this question i have made a podcast to answer the question: What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Evaluation - In What Ways Does Your Media Product Use, Develop or Challenge Forms and Conventions of Real Media Products?

This is the first part of my evaluation for my AS media production of the opening sequence to my film "The Chase".

I have designed and edited a voice over of the film that helps to answer the question: In what ways does your  media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Evaluation - How Does Your Media Product Represent Any Particular Social Groups?

I designed this PowerPoint to answer the second question on my Evaluation task.
The presentation is about different social groups that my film would appeal too.

Change of Plan

Yesterday we sat down as a group and looked at the rough edit that we'd put together so far. As I described in the last post we still had the continuity problem to overcome. But as a group we have decided that we are happy with the film so far and do not want to change the story line.

It was suggested to us that we turn the film into a zombie style film, however this was not what we wanted as we wanted to keep the genre as an action "Chase" style film.
Also I wanted to keep the motorbike scene as I believe this is individual, as not many other AS students would be able to do this.

Since then we have fully edited the film with credits, soundtrack and sound effects and are reasonably happy with the outcome.

Continuity Error!

Over the past couple of weeks we have started to put togeather a rough edit of our opening sequnece: The Chase. It has not been an easy task and we have had to make various compromices during the filming.

Yesterday we sat down and realised that we had a few continuity problems. This was a big problem, the part in the film where we show the bike jumping uses two different bikes. The character starts off on a black bike and halfway through the shot it changes to a completly different bike that is orange. (This is a schoolboy error and makes the film look homemade!) so because of this we decided that we should change the story line and have two bike in it. 1 Black and 1 Orange!! Problem solved!

We decided as a group that we should try and film a few extra shots to put in the film. this involved:
The extra bike shots and showing the other character Demitris running with the gun.

Music Video Analysis

Last week we looked at the mucic video Breezeblocks. we looked at the ways in which it is shown backwards.

This is the normal version which is played backwards:

This the edited version which is played forwards or how its ment to be:

Production Meeting

In this production meeting we spoke about our remaining action points.

we had already decided:
  • Wherabouts we were filming the different shots.
  • What equipmemnt we needed and was required.
  • The timings of the shots and filming dates.
  •  The storyboard.

The bits we focused on in todays meeting were:

  • Sound effects.
  • The soundtrack.
As a group we found a website called: http://www.freesfx.co.uk/ on this website we found the relevant sound effects we needed and downloaded them.

We downloaded different gun shot sounds and found a non copyright theme tune we can use that will fit in well with our film.

BBFC

In last weeks lesson we looked at the BBFC which stands for the British Board of Film Classification.
The BBFC is an independant, non-governement body which has been classifiing cinema films since it was set up in 1912. But also classifies DVD's and Video's since the video recordings act in 1984.

the certificates the BBFC offer are:

Start of Filming the opening sequence

Over the past week as a group we have started to film the opening sequnece task of our film the chase. The shots we have completed so far a shot 4 and 5 from the storyboard and show the leader of the Russian Mafia lighting a ciggaertte and stubbing it out.

Below is a picture of our storyboard:

Shot 4 is what we have filmed so far this week.

As a group we have organised a production schedule so we have a clear idea of what is being filmed on what day.

Production Pitch to class

Here is the production pitch that me and my group designed, we then presented this to the class. the pitch shows about what our film is about.
it includes a mood board, a synopsis and some characters.
Enjoy!

First Production meeting

Over the past couple of weeks in small groups of three or four we have been starting to think about possible ideas of what we would like to produce for our main filming task of shooting an opening sequence to a film.

The idea that my group came up with was to base our film on an action shooter film set in Russia. The idea of this came from films such as Blood Diamond.

We then came up with the basic idea that the film was going to be about a wanted Russian Criminal hunting and chasing down a man who had stolen something from them or had something they wanted desperately.
We decided as a group that the film should be set in Russia among abandoned  buildings to give a violent thrilling affect.

As a group we gave each person a specific job to find out information and research that we could put together in a presentation pitch that would be shown to the class.

These jobs were researching things such as:

  • Locations
  • Characters
  • Soundtrack
  • Plot
  • Similar films and clips
  • Creating a mood board
We then met up at a later date to discuss our results and findings.

Preliminary task

Our last task that we were set was in groups of two or three we must complete the preliminary task. This is our first major filming task and is an exercise designed to show our newly learnt knowledge and skill of filming using different camera angles and techniques.
In the preliminary task we had to show a person entering a room and then to sit down and have a conversation with another person.
We had to use techniques; like reverse angle shots and use the 180 degree line rule.
Once we had filmed all the relevant shots we then went back and edited the video together to make the film flow freely and have the best continuity.
The video below is the result of my groups attempt at the preliminary task:
